ENERGY SERVICES
Organisations of all types are increasingly striving to deliver more energy efficient, lower carbon operations across their estate.
CTH is able to offer a comprehensive energy management service through our dedicated Energy Management business.
This service has been developed to be completely flexible, to allow relevant services to be selected for specific premises and operational needs for example

OUR APPROACH
We follow a simple three stage process to identify energy conservation measures and the key elements of this process are outlined below:
MEASURE
Identify what volume of utilities (electricity, gas, water) the premises is using, and their source, the size and operation of the premises, how the data is collected, how the buildings match against appropriate comparisons, and what the cost of the utilities are.
SURVEY
The building(s) will be visited by experienced technical personnel capable of understanding its operation, how the building is being used, the relevant energy legislative compliance requirements, such as energy certificates and the Carbon Reduction Commitment, and able to develop a detailed report with recommendations. A standard survey checklist is applied to ensure a consistent approach.
REPORT
The report will broadly review six areas, with recommendations, costs and timescales for implementing improvements:
1. Strategy How well has the organisation developed and implemented an energy and/or carbon reduction strategy
2. Measuring, Monitoring, and Targeting How is utility use measured, controlled, and verified
3. Controls Using CTH’s controls expertise and applying the “System Optimisation Service” methodology to building management systems (BMS) to check operational compatibility of existing controls strategies (including time schedules and set points) against building use
4. Behaviour One of the areas of energy consumption that repeatedly causes difficulty to manage is the interface with people. The review will include an overview of the communication of energy-related issues to building users
5. Technology There are many new devices and applications of technology that are able to deliver energy efficiency and carbon reduction Drawing from our operational, installation and design experience, and working with our supply chain, our engineering expertise can be applied to each premises to establish opportunities for deploying better technologies.
6. Carbon Footprint Increasingly, organisations wish to report their Carbon Footprint. Using the Carbon Trust-approved International Green House Gas Protocol, we work with customers to establish Scope 1 and Scope 2 Carbon Footprints, based on the data collected through the survey process.
IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMME
The key output of the Report is a proposed improvement programme, identifying possible activities and projects, timelines, costs, paybacks and options for implementing the recommendations within the Report. Various payment options including the use of grant and tax allowance opportunities can also be considered.
VERIFICATION
Once the improvement programme is underway, it is important for all concerned to demonstrate the effectiveness of the programme, so where possible we would offer a post implementation review, detailing improvements, paybacks and performance verification.
UTILITY BUREAU SERVICE
The Utility Bureau Service, used by CTH, is a versatile Web Based M&T database covering utility usage such as Electricity, Gas, Water, Oil, Solid Fuel or any other utility. Monitoring allows you to easily identify areas of wastage or overspend and track the savings that you are making.
The package covers all the fundamental analyses required for Monitoring and Targeting including:
- Trend analysis and comparison with previous performance.
- Comparison with targets or benchmarks.
- Ranking of sites according to performance.
- Setting alarms using a proactive exception reporting facility.
- At a more advanced level, the software also incorporates CUSUM, Regression- Analysis and Degree-Day adjustment methods to provide closer monitoring of waste and savings.
A comprehensive library of reports is provided to cover all standard reporting requirements. All reports are designed to show results clearly and to a high standard of presentation, allowing you to get your message across. These reports may be seamlessly exported to Excel for further analysis or printed by batch. Custom reports may be created to fit any requirements.
The web facility allows users to enter their own meter readings and run reports over the Internet. Using this interface, individual sites can have direct access to their data.
ENERGY LEGISLATION
CTH keeps abreast of legislative changes so that we can assess if you need to take action to comply. There are a number of areas of legislative compliance that we can help you with for example: The Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme, Display Energy Certificates, Energy Performance Certificates and Air Conditioning Inspections (CIBSE TM44).
